The bridge has been considered, discussed and in the news on and off since about 1985. At that time the population on the islands was significantly smaller, but it was already seen as a viable option.
The below footage was on 7 News on 3rd January 2021, from Flashback series - Stradbroke residents were protesting against the bridge.
